Depending on one’s age, it’s not quite as funny as it sounds…

Friends of my parents had a list of items to not forget by their front door when they left. One of the items on the list was teeth. Hahaha!

I couldn’t find the original note in the last panel. What I do, is I count the number of items I need to take or what I need to do & count. if I come up short, then I go through what I need to bring or do. Most of the time that works.

My dad apparently took a kitchen knife from my mother’s Chicago Cutlery set, a wedding gift, lost it, probably in the backyard. (Despite diligent efforts by him and myself, including the use of a metal detector, it was never found.) She put a sticky note on the knife block which declared, “I’m still mad about the knife!” It was on the block when she died and had been having there for about 10-12 years…so far as I know, she’s still mad about it.

As respects not forgetting my wallet, I carry my folding money in my left front pants / shorts pocket separate from my credit card / ID wallet which goes in my left rear pocket. My smart phone goes in my right front pocket. A handkerchief and pocket comb go in my right rear pocket. I pat my pockets as I am picking up my car keys. This system has kept me from ever forgetting any of the essentials for the last 30 years.

Before I retired, my late wife had one of those magnetic dry-erase check boards on the door, to remind me of things (I worked early shift so she slept in) besides notes like “Take your key / wallet / phone, etc” would be “Your lunch is in the fridge”, “Turn off the coffee pot”, “Take out the trash” and occasional jokes like “check your fly”

As an ex-programmer/software developer, I couldn’t agree more. Especially since most “smart” devices have devolved into Trojan Information Harvesters.

Maybe Norman and the rest of the Drabbles are related to EDD from the cartoon, “ED, EDD, and EDDY!”
