You have to give the kids points for trying.
I remember as a kid using newspaper, some small diameter dowel rods, glue and tape to make my own kite to fly. Had some old, wide package ribbon for a tail.

I guess kids aren’t what they used to be: we made our own kites a few times.

Adam’s heating pad is being used for sore and soar.
Every now and then I’d try out a box kite. The winds in my folk’s neighborhood were never great enough to get one aloft.
They’re cursed with their Father’s genes.
We had forty-mile-an-hour gusts last Spring. It was so windy I was able to fly a Hawaiian shirt on a coathangar. :)
In the 60’s we made our own kites out of sticks, string and newspaper. We had more fun making the kites than flying them.
