The great blue jean SHRINKAGE inquisition In the store: Cathy: Are you sure they won't shrink?? Are you positive they won't shrink?? Does a "possible 1/4 inch shrinkage in length" mean a true 1/4 inch. or might it be more like 3/8 inch? If they're "pre-shrunk", why might they shrink at all in length...and if they could shrink in length, couldn't they also shrink in the rear,...and if they did shrink in the rear, would they stretch out right away or stay shrunk? If I wash them in cold and hang to dry, how cool must the room temperature be to prevent "open air shrinkage"... ...And then if I toss them in the dryer to unstiffen them, how many seconds can they tumble on "low" before I risk a "shrinkage-from-completely-dry-fabric" situation?? THESE JEANS MUST NOT SHRINK! At home: Irving: Dark colors. Hot water. Whatever.

Nooooooooooooooooooobody expects the Great Blue Jeans Shrinkage Inquisition!
Irving, beware. For this trespass, Cathy may just subject you to the rack. A clothing store’s rack, that is! Hours spent trapped in an uncomfy chair, watching her try on varying types of clothing, with the great likelihood of her not buying ANY of them… and the remote yet dreadful possibility of her BUYING THEM ALL! DIABOLICAL LAUGHTER Bwa ha ha ha ha!

Hey at least Irving’s helping with the housework, we have to give him some credit. But why Cathy again bought clothing too small for her will have to remain one of the mysteries of the universe.

Always expect clothes to shrink a little and purchase accordingly….. But I am glad to see that Irving is doing laundry. Wonder if he likes his whites “tie dyed” with the running of colours in hot water? At university the school colors were crimson & grey. Guys washed everything together and on hot; dried them on the hottest possible dryer setting as well. Many ended up with pink underclothes and a weird pinky grey for any outer ware that wasn’t initially crimson, and was then a paler crimson (leaning toward pink!) LOL

I’ve turned off the hot water to my washer. So nobody can make that mistake at my house.

Here’s a dumb question: If wearing jeans is so much trouble, why wear them?

I love wearing jeans the most, but I have very long legs, so if they shrink a little in length, they look ridiculous. It’s not so easy for me to find pants that are long enough, so I need to make sure they’ll stay that way. Granted, Cathy doesn’t look all that long, so I’m guessing her issue is with width rather than length.

I’m with you Calista. I only wash clothes in cold water.

Actually jeans are incredibly comfortable if you get them in the relaxed style.
Oh, and Irving’s dead once Cathy finds out how he ‘helped’ with the laundry: except for towels, never never NEVER wash in hot water!!

That is why I NEVER let the husband do the laundry. I love my jeans. I’m short and it’s hard to find ‘em the right length, so if they shrink a little no biggy for me. I usually put ‘em in the dryer once or twice to see. Then air dry. ;)

Actually, the experts say to buy your jeans a skosh tight, (not can’t-get-‘em-snapped tight, just a hair tight) because they stretch out within a few minutes of wearing them.
That said, I still wash my jeans cold and air dry them.

I love it when my husband helps out with the housework, except the laundry. I ask him over and over again not to put any of my clothes in the washer. He always grabs my shirts that need to be cold and hung dry. They get washed warm and dried on medium. I have to re-wet them to stretch them back out. lol

Laundry is the one chore I don’t ask my guys to do. When we were dating, I went to the laundromat with my now-husband. One washer, one dryer. Aaakk!

I wash everything together on warm and tumble dry on high. My boyfriend goes nuts and wont let me touch his laundry, but all my clothes are still the same size and color (aside from fading over time) as they were when I bought them. I don’t get what the big deal about sorting is.

Just like at our hose – that’s why I do my laundry and he does his.
