As odd as it is, this is sorta my life. At least panel 3. Whenever I see my mom, she thinks my husband is perfect and starts criticizing me, even when I do nothing wrong. Drives me nuts…

ditto, lightenup. Even if he is just sitting around watching TV I get the “well, at least you let him have some time to relax”……. maybe they were raised to think men were close to “godliness”??

    Basically, yes, Avolunteer.

It isn’t Cathy who’s desperate for marriage and children, it’s her mother, who was raised with the idea that that is the ultimate lifestyle for a woman – indeed, the only real lifestyle for a woman. She naturally assumes that Cathy shares the same values, so she’s determined to see Cathy reach the same goal no matter what. That’s why she’s pushing so hard for Cathy and Irving to get back together now, and why she’s grasping at straws where Cathy’s love life is concerned and implying that not being married is Cathy’s fault because she’s too picky when it comes to dating men, including Irving.

Mothers never get to see the arguments and fights, why shouldn’t they think he’s the greatest. Besides he’s a lot younger and cuter than the lump that’s been on the couch for 40 years.
