In Japan, you get a summer break and return to school in the autumn while still in the same academic year at which you started the recent spring and yet there’s still summer homework.

I never got any homework that I had to do during the summer. Not even a reading list.

Freedom isn’t always as free as it first appears to be.

We always had to read a book in the summer when in elementary school. I actually enjoyed going to the library, picking a book that peaked my interest. I usually read it right after I got it so I didn’t have to worry about reading before school started in September.

Summer assignments never made any sense to me as you got a different teacher in the fall. I never had any either.

I never had to deal with the summer reading until my grandson was in grade school. I read comic books during the summer when I was a kid.

I enjoyed getting reading lists, but then, I’m a certified bookworm.
