Not as dangerous as triving. Texting and other cell phone usage is killing thousands every year. Unfortunately, a great percentage of those deaths are innocent victims of the texters.
At work the other day a guy was so involved in what he was reading on his phone he walked right into me while I was getting out of the elevator. I was so mad I yelled at him to get his head out of his aps!
It surprises me how often I’ll be riding my bike on a trail and someone coming the opposite way won’t notice me because they’re doing something on their phone. Fortunately I have a bell on my handlebars for such occasions. It usually startles them.
I used to read books and walk at the same time. Now I’ll use an audio book, and the phone’s external speakers. No earbuds because I want to hear what is going on around me. Even with heads up / eyes open, and “aware mode” on ear buds, I can still be startled from behind. So the phone goes into a breast pocket.

Next time, look where you’re walking, Rory. Let sleeping cats be.

Do try to never step on a cat. The results can be injurious to your health.

This was too funny! And sadly true.
