John Titor is an internet phenomemnea of sorts. Here is a good synopsis on Wikipaedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor - upshot is, he is supposedly a guy who comes back to 1999 to save us from Y2k (from the year 2036-because he needs a computer from an even earlier time to solve the 32 bit error that will happen in his current time - much like Y2K). The character shows up in comment boards (chat room effectively) for 2 years with some predictions (most of which have not proved to come true but are easily explained by the multi-verse concept of time travel).
