Why is it that people think sales clerks should know everything about every product in the store? Nowadays, the clerks tend to be part-time college students studying in a completely different field of interest. I am convinced that some of them just took the sales clerk job at a certain store for the employee discount.
When a sales clerk says: “Can I help you?”
They really mean: “Can I help you check out and get out of the store so that I can go back to texting my friends?”
Thank God for the Internet. Most of us do our research before we go to the store and we don’t need a knowledgeable sales clerk. We just need someone to check us out quickly. The only time I find a sales clerk helpful is to find a size or look in the back for something.
I hate shopping. I do as much as I can online (God bless Amazon.com & eBay!) — the rest I do at Wal-Mart, which I almost never need sales help for. I pretty much know where everything is because the things on my list that I need are usually things I buy all the time anyhow. The only thing that throws me is when they decide to do yet another store remodel and I have to hunt things down and memorize their new location all over again (which thankfully that doesn’t happen very often).
Especially applies to “Greeters” at the bank who stand and chat with you while you wait in line – Yes, you could help me – you could get behind the counter and open up a till and do something real.

Who hasn’t been there and done that? Utterly frustrating!
