Some things are hard to live down to. People just can’t think anyone is so low. I run into it all the time.

“Surely nobody got in a submersible with no way to get out without outside assistance.”
“Surely nobody would sell drugs to little children or steal from the poor or bully the weak.”
I wish I were wrong more often.
