Apparently, the guy doesn’t have much importance in that office. How else to explain the fact that he was gone for a week and Cathy didn’t even notice?
There was a recent incident in Stone Soup where Val really felt overwhelmed by everything, and would have liked to take the day off. A co-worker suggested to Val that it was ok to go ahead. She pointed out that another co-worker, who had a sign on his desk saying he was in a meeting, had actually sent her a postcard while he was away. You couldn’t read what it said, but you didn’t have to: The picture on the back showed a palm tree, blue ocean, bright sun….
So evidently it’s not unusual for it not to be noticeable when someone is away for a while….
Considering some of the places I’ve worked at, their standards of competence would certainly allow a person’s absence not to be noticed.

Haven’t you noticed, Aaron? This company must be part of the dot-com era when so many had jobs and did very little. Ahh, those were the days… ;-)
