Isn’t Nate 26 years into being a 6th grader? Didn’t it take 28 years for Luann to go through high school? Didn’t the Peanuts gang stay in first or second grade for about 50 years? And Ginger Meggs alone is over 100. And Nancy is in 5th or 6th grade now for about 90 years as well. Seem like Wunky Finkerbean and the Pattersons and Doonsebury, on occasion, are the only characters who age in the comic strip universe. Heck, even Fred Bassett is 60 and his does not look much different from when he started.
This might be the first time I’ve seen a comic strip character who is aware of the passage of time and observed that he hasn’t gotten any older. (Possible exception: Mutt and Jeff. They often acknowledged that they existed in a comic strip.)
My favorite takes on the idea of comic strip characters aging came from Mad Magazine, which visited that idea a couple of times. I recall an entire article showing what would happen to the Peanuts kids if they aged in real time.
Finally, if you’re a fan of Calvin & Hobbes and have never seen this, google Hobbes & Bacon.

Love how some comic characters are self-aware of their situations.

Each strip only covers a few minutes. It might take a whole week to cover an entire day, so really, it’s only your 3rd year starting middle school.
