Are assigned Summer reading lists common with schools? I never had one in the 60s and early 70s.

There’s a reason why reading lists aren’t a thing anymore. Or at least they’re not where I’m from.

“Summer reading assignments” seems to be a favorite theme among these comic strip writers. I never had one either in any of my schools.

I never had a summer reading assignment, but I didn’t need one. I LOVED to read, and did so throughout the year.
