My dog gets very excited to wear her collar and leash. It either means we are going in the car, maybe to work (which she loves) or we are going for a walk. We take pretty long walks and run into neighbors, many of them with dogs, and we have a lot of meet and greet going on here. Mine, being a female, is friends with all the other dogs. The males here tend to bark at each other, even though they are, as far as I know, all fixed. Mine just stands calmly when she meets a new dog and lets them sniff her all over. She’s very patient with it. My best guess is since she was used to hunting in a pack, so this was normal behavior for her and she just accepts it. She has never barked at another dog – not even with joy. She has, rarely, let out a tiny whine of joy when we go into the hospital. I wish Buckles loved his collar and leash. If he didn’t pull, it probably wouldn’t be uncomfortable.

My Grandpa used the same phrase, but he didn’t use the word spit.

I don’t get the meaning of that phrase, though.
