It’s always the same unbelievable nonsense. Drinking, getting drunk, fighting, falling in the canal, getting arrested. What’s the old adage? “Questions I know the answer to I don’t need to ask?”
Wonder why he needs to feed her nonsense? All he has to tell her is that he got drunk, fell into the canal, spent some time in jail, as usual. Surely she’s used to it by now.
But if Andy really had to give her a story she’d buy, he could take a lesson from a Carol Burnett Show sketch. Husband (Harvey Korman) gets home late and gives wife (Carol) an absurdly convoluted story about why he was delayed (traffic accidents, people in need of help, etc.). Knowing that Carol wouldn’t believe a word of it, he brought home everyone involved to back up his tale. She cross-examines them, and finally concedes that he’s telling the truth. She goes back to bed (after being mildly rebuked for not trusting her husband). When she’s out of the room, Harvey pays off everyone, except for the last woman in the crowd — and it’s clear that she is the reason he was late.
Of course if Andy tried that, he’d have to part with a few pounds, and that’s just out of character for him. Might as well just fight it out with Flo every night.

After all, it’s those questions that force him to come up with that nonsense.

He’s considered those questions rhetorical long time ago, thus the nonsensical answers.

He is in more trouble than he has ever been now——heading to homeless or living with mother-in-law full time.
