No better place to be than the pub. Certainly as far as Andy is concerned.

but, of course!

Andy now carries one of those new fangled phones???

you are a better friend than Andy deserves Chalkie!

Of course the pub is the much better place.

The spirit one finds in a Pub is much, much better than what one finds at the Job Center.

Since Chalkie called him, he must know he’s in the pub. AFAIK, Andy doesn’t have a cell phone.

And, significantly Chalkie knows where to call to check.

Hm. Something amiss here.

The Pub…Andy’s home away from home!

And if Chalkie’s here, who’s buying?

Andy must be on the pay phone at the pub (What’s a pay phone?).

Andy’s phone cord stretches to the pub?

That’s right, he was down in the dumps because they wouldn’t give him a raise on his dole.

A MUCH better place to be sure.

For Andy there is no better place than the pub, his life revolves around it.

I’m guessing he almost had a job?

I’m in a much better place now too.

With Andy being “in a much better place”, this strip jogged my memory about the song “In Heaven there is no beer” that I heard in some bars in Korea frequented by U.S. military.
