In Bell, Book and Candle, Jack Lemmon (warlock) wonders why witches don’t just ‘magic’ themselves into wealth?. Elsa Lanchester (witch) replies “because most of us aren’t that good at it.”
Some traditions maintain that magic cannot be used to directly benefit the person wielding it. I’m not sure whether that means that the crystal ball won’t work if you charge for its predictions.

How come every fortune cookie has different “lucky numbers”? Do they all have secret “lucky days” attached?

If one did win, would they be accused of cheating?
Fortune tellers speak in vague terms. They’d say “There will be six numbers between 1 and 100” or somesuch.

Why do fortune tellers have to advertise, shouldn’t they know who wants to use their services?

Guy goes to a fortune teller to have a seance to contact his dead mother.
About 1/2 way through, guy realizes the fortune teller is a fake.
He confronts her, and she starts laughing.
He hits her, cops come, and he is charged with “Striking a happy medium”.
Both of them land in jail, but being very short, she easily escapes.
Headlines next day say “Small medium at large”.

If psychics know so much, why don’t they come to people with important news and not the other way around?
