NATIONAL CREAMSICLE DAY. Drat! I just bought a bunch of groceries yesterday after work (enough to sustain me for most of my next 2 weeks of vacation) and I neglected to buy Creamsicles!
My vacation plans (since somebody asked yesterday). Day one, rest, day 2, relax, day 3, loaf…Okay, really, I plan on mostly relaxing and reading outside in my yard, but I also have yard work to finish, I need to clean my porch and maybe clean up the garage a little, and I will spend some time in my garden (mostly picking corn and green beans). I only have 3 days planned. August 19th, (the day after my birthday), I will have a little birthday cookout at the local park. I’ve rented a shelter for the day. I figure on starting the party at around 11:00 and we’ll probably hang out until around 4:00 or so. Most of my family is invited. Only one brother is excluded – most of you know who and why he isn’t invited. The party will be SO MUCH better without him there. On August 25th, my sister and 2 of my brothers will be heading to Ohio. My cousin, Becky, died back in May and another cousin has arranged for a memorial funeral service for her. After the funeral, we will gather at my Aunt Lois’s house for a family reunion. Aunt Lois just turned 97, so this will likely be our last chance to see her. After the reunion, we will be making the 8-hour or so drive back home. Becky was born the same day as me – same year, too, so this birthday is a little bittersweet. My first birthday that I don’t have her sharing it with me. I mean, we rarely spent the day together, but we at least would talk on the phone every year. Speaking of that, I still have a phone message from her on my answering machine. It’s weird listening to her joking with me, saying, “Yeah, I’m still alive” when she isn’t anymore. Sorry – I don’t mean to be a downer. It’s my vacation and I’m happy and excited and ready to enjoy it.
I’m working on my second book – a sequel to Wanda Weird. Maybe I can finish writing it while I’m on vacation.
Oliver means well, and it’s good that he is so kind hearted. Still, it’s kind of sad that the mice are taking advantage of his niceness and gullibility. At least Chesney isn’t being a jerk to him. On another note, saw a robin, a sparrow, a rabbit and a Wilson’s warbler while out walking today.

Oliver is such a kind (but dimwitted) soul. Poor baby. Chesney will plan on how to take advantage in a cheezy way.
