We thought we had a cat that played dog food and stashed it in dad’s shoes or mom’s purse for safe keeping. Turns out it was my brudder, the one who liked to eat dog bones when he was little.
When we just had Hildy and Lindy, littermates, they’d slowly share two bowls in the kitchen. Our third, Misty, who had been rescued from a puppy mill where we guess she had to compete for food, was a little vacuum cleaner. In response, Hildy became a little vacuum cleaner herself, while Lindy became even slower and we had to put her bowl on the end of the couch so she could constantly guard it.

A good thing cats don’t generally like dog food. Otherwise, those two geniuses would have yours before it hit the floor.

The best way to guard it from predators is to eat it.
