It’s long been a gimmick of sales of any “popular” and controversial political figure, from the Clintons to Limbaugh and Hannity, being inflated by campaigns buying copies for free or “added bonus” giveaways to supporters.
Further, there’s a current (Aug. 25) article in Independent Journal Review alleging a malicious campaign by BookScan, Amazon, the NY Times, and others (with evidence shown) to under-report sales of Carlson’s book. The “3,000 sales” mentioned in the strip above do not add in over 7,500 copies shipped to Amazon in advance, which were reported as sold out “within minutes” at the Amazon website, which then apparently only undertook to fulfill orders placed after the release date and NOT fulfilling advance orders, AND not submitting those figures to BookScan. The article details several other “acts of omission” by the NY Times bestseller compilers and others.
I remember a recent controversy where Al Franken’s book “Al Franken: Giant of the Senate”, which came out just before the accusations of sexual molestation were made against him, ended up unceremoniously dumped left and right in book stores and thrift stores, with many multiple AUTOGRAPHED copies turning up as donations to library surplus sales alongside withdrawn library copies that were never circulated in just one area. It suddenly seemed as “hot potato” as Bill Cosby books and videos after his conviction of similar charges.
It could be that Carson just didn’t have the support of organizations such as the Republican National Committee who reportedly purchased over $300,000 worth of Trump Jr’s self-published book in 2020, and handed them when you donated to the R.N.C., as was noted in Forbes – this purchase drove Juniors book temporarily to the top of the New York Times “best-seller” list…
Though I suspect the latter supposition by the rabbit factors in to the truth of the matter, as well…

I’m sure all of the above will shape the answers.

Maybe if he was to sue himself over publishing his own unauthorized auto-biography, he could drum up some publicity.

… also, does that count include the copies he and his family members purchased for promotional/donation use?
