I sometimes hang my hoodie or jacket on the back of a kitchen chair. As a younger cat, my calico Sara would get inside the hood and nap. So this is familiar territory for me.
The cats sleep in my clothes that are on the bed. They just love the bed, especially the fluffy blanket. They especially love the Polarfleece and the flannel sheets.
When I was about 12 I was at a sleepaway camp in Massachusetts. I’d get up very early to go to the kitchen cabin for breakfast—cold cereal in milk. Not a great idea on a chilly morning, but I wasn’t allowed to use the stove. A stray cat that I nicknamed Whitey would climb into the hood of my jacket when I got there, to get warm. She’d stay in the hood until I ate the cereal. I’d then give her the milk. I don’t know what happened to her when the camp closed. This strip is in her memory.
She shares her items with them, but they were upset when she wanted to use theirs. Typical cats and dogs – if they ever touched it, it’s theirs. I am sure most of us have lost items of our own to our babies. One of my former cats took a piece from a dress I had been making. It was sort of the right size to be a cat toy, and we called it her baby. She understood the word, because if she didn’t have it, we would ask her where her baby was and she would immediately go get it, no matter where it was. She always knew.
I am now officially catless. Simon took his last trip to the vet this morning; it’s nice to know his suffering was kept to a minimum. But if anyone can think of a new handle (darcy and simon are both gone, now), lemme know! I hesitate to change it..

And in the meantime, thanks for a good laugh, Nancy. I needed that!

I had a kitten that did that. It’d climb up my legs and back to my shoulder and curl up in my hoodie. Gave the barista a shock!
