I remember a news item in North Dakota. Someone called into a radio station complaining the deer crossing sign was too close to school and would they please move it.
We always tell children “watch for cars”. But we really should be hammering into drivers’ heads “Watch for children”. Supposedly, the drivers are the responsible adults, while children are careless by nature. The burden needs to be on the adult, not on the kid.
The problem is that by the time any one deer learns what it means, it’s too late. It’s like those deer whistles to mount on the grill. Research found no difference between the whistles and no sound. No chance for the deer to associate the whistle with getting hit.
