    Years ago on my way to work I was waiting at a stop light at the end of an interstate ramp and noticed a long row of birds bunched up on a wire just like the ones shown here. After a few seconds there was a blinding flash of light and the whole flock dropped to the ground. This cartoon reminded me of that incident.

    You should only flush left in the Southern hemisphere. Otherwise you risk a sewer line backup.

    There are a lot of birds in my neighborhood, often making an even row of birds from one telephone pole to the next. Occasionally, you will see an interrupted row – a long gap – with a single bird in the middle. That would be a peregrine falcon, which eats other birds.

    As I face my toilet, the handle’s on the left, so I flush left. I seldom go over the shoulder when I’m sitting, or I could flush right.
