I addressed a letter to a friend like that when I was on vacation. I had driven to her house many times, but never mailed her anything. The mailman delivered it and got an award. A picture of the letter and his picture were published in their newsletter.
This was in the late sixties. Today, the Post Office sends your mail back if you have one digit wrong.
Way back in the 60’s I got a card delivered to me from my Aunt. It was addressed to “Chrissy on the Farm” and the name of the town. Back then the postman knew everyone in our rural setting.
I see that they “air-brushed” what was originally written on the envelope and replaced it with computer-generated writing. I’m willing to think that “New York” wasn’t originally on the envelope. Makes me wonder what the original message was.

For some reason I’m thinking of Edith Bunker.

When I worked at the USPS we got a letter addressed to Gramma on Stone St. I finally got it delivered. Took about a week
