the rule in my house is simple: if somebody else fills your plate, youāre not obliged to eat it all. if you fill your own plate (or take second helpings), youāre obliged to eat it all. This is why I give my children a small portion at first, and then let them decide whether they want a second portion or not
That made sense when I was one of three boys in a poor military service family. Today my plate is much bigger and I need to push it away before I finish.

The sin of gluttony originally referred to the hoarding of things beyond what you actually needed, things like property, wealth, and yes, food.

When we were growing up it was eat or wait for the next meal!!! I had 5 brothers and 1 sister, needless to say no leftovers!!!
