I don’t even own umbrellas. I am of the height that the pokey things aim for my eyes. I avoid being around people using umbrellas. I never found a way to really get in and out of a car and staying dry, either. I wear jackets/coats with hoodies. Up when it’s raining or birds overhead, down most of the rest of the time. I got in the habit from work, and then refined it due to daily long dog walks in a place where it is likely to rain or snow every three days or so.
I often walk a mile or two to get to things I do. There is usually a lot of wind going on when it rains. Umbrellas are pretty useless most of the time, so I wear raincoats or ponchos.

Invest in a heavy-duty umbrella. It might do this, but it’ll do it less often.

I figure that once I’m wet, there’s no point to trying to avoid getting wet.

There isn’t much rain here, so our umbrellas don’t get used.

I bought one made in London which is guaranteed not to invert in 40 mph winds. The claim holds true after 40 years of use.
