Our neighborhood squirrels have been busy with pecans. When those things sprout, you think you can easily pull that spindly little twig out of the lawn, or planting beds … but, no! It’ll have at least a foot-long tap root with the nut acting as an anchor below ground.

No point in telling them, they don’t remember. But fortunately, enough squirrels bury enough nuts that random digging will usually result in success.

Oy! My neighbors tree drops acorns in my yard and the squirrels go nuts over them and so do the deer….in winter. ☺️

It is because of squirrels forgettig where they buried buckeye seeds that the buckeye tree is now found world wide.
