Sgt. Preston always said “Hike!” or something like that. I wondered why….

For any younger folks reading the strip today, “Mush!” was what little boys said whenever they saw anything romantic in a movie or on TV. Kissing, hugging, romantic talk was all “mushy.”

Charlie Brown was just (loudly) declaring what his favorite breakfast food is. It was easier than yelling, “CREAM OF WHEAT!!! CREAM OF WHEAT!!!”

I guess Snoops is too young for a “defend the pack” response.

So that’s where Pastis got it from.

This is one of the very few Peanuts comics I didn’t understand when I first learned to read (age 4 or 5). I didn’t understand ‘mush’ in either context.

He felt that Charlie “blocked” him in a certain way
