I like the baby shower idea. The “new mother” could write up invitations stating the brand and size of the baby doll, and invite her friends over for kool-aid and cookies or whatever. Each attendee could bring an outfit or accessory for the new doll.
When I got my first microwave, many years ago, I asked my friends to throw a microwave party for me, giving me microwavable bowls and such, in return for the all the engagement party, wedding and baby shower presents I gave them. They laughed.

Patty, you should have taken your new doll out in the doll carriage and shown it off to each one like a proud mama. "

Looks like Patty’s about to use Raggedy Ann (or an unreasonable facsimile) as a blackjack.
