In the third panel, I read up until “I’m sure I’ll break down and…” and finished that sentence with “…then Irving will come over and try to fix me.” Lollll… we all know that won’t be easy, but at least it will keep him busy at her house for a while. :-D

I had an ex-girlfriend call for me to come “rescue” her from her new boyfriend at 2:00 a.m. in Hollywood. Of course, by the time I got there, they had both calmed down. The important thing for her was to know she did have someplace to go if she needed it. She really was all alone in the world.
We had parted amicably, so I didn’t mind doing it once. She never imposed again.

I did suspect that Cathy’s mom would concentrate on Cathy calling Irving and ignore the actual reason she called.
