My formerly favorite pastry (no names, sorry!) changed to soybean oil and I can’t have any! Another temptation vanquished by the cheapening of mass-produced foods!
I started a diet eight months ago. I eat out a lot these days. Portions tend to be generous, especially in tourist towns, where an additional 30 french fries is supposed to make up for the extra $5 the meal cost. I was able to lose weight by the simple expedient of dividing the high-calorie component, such as fries, in half and pushing half of it to the far side of the plate. The near half is food and the far half is not-food. I’ve lost 13 pounds without changing what I eat.
The first rule of dieting: cleaning you plate is for fat people.
Rather quiet here the last couple of days. I have been checking in rather late as I have not been here afternoons most of this week – rehearsals and trips to North Bay to leave and then retrieve my vehicle. Had to get a rental for the week as the dealer did not have the parts for a warranty repair to the a/c – and with this heat wave I refused to drive without it. Funny though, when I first started driving -and for at least a decade after that, cars did not have a/c. We used the 4/60 model – 4 windows down and travel 60mph. We upgraded to the 4/100 model – same 4 window but 100kph. This method did not seem to bother us much back then but I did not enjoy the 2 hour trip to get my vehicle to the dealer. Something about getting older I guess.
Happy Friday everyone – and have a fantastic weekend – and a fantastic long weekend to my fellow Canadians whose province recognizes the Civic Holiday on Monday.

A bagel the size of a frisbee? Never! A bagel that big is not an authentic bagel, just bread dough baked in the shape of a giant, frisbee-size donut!

Ya can’t win sometimes when you go out for food, huh? Makes ya wonder if the whole experience is really worth it …
