Hamas should be protecting the children at least. I guess they don’t care about anyone but themself.

It’s what Hamas wants. Which is why they put their military installations in the most sensitive civilian areas.
Putin needs more recognition for his hand in this. Putin is an ally of Hamas, having trained and armed him through his Wagner Group.
Several things must happen.
Israel must stop air strikes; Hamas and Hezbollah must stop rocket attacks.
Hamas must release all hostages/prisoners.
The Rafah gate must open to allow aid to flow in, and foreign nationals to leave.
Then all sides must sit down (perhaps under UN oversight) and decide a humane future for Gaza. That future would likely have to exclude Hamas.
