One thing I’d like to try is to build a tree out of prunings. The trees in my yard are all too big anyway. :D

At last! After more than twenty years of effort on behalf of PETfir (People for the Ethical Treatment of Christmas Trees, see: http://HowlandBolton.com/essays/read_more.php?sid=106 and http://HowlandBolton.com/stcf/images/TraciTree.jpg) and the SAVE THE CONES FUND, my anti-arboricide campaign is at last being recognised! See http://HowlandBolton.com/essays/read_more.php?sid=20

Because an artificial tree is better for the environment?

If left to grow, a mature fir tree absorbs about 48 pounds of carbon per year, cut for a Christmas tree tat drops to zero pounds.

Seems like the best thing is to buy a used artificial tree from a Church or Salvation Army type thrift store. Keeps that tree from being thrown out and the money goes to a good cause.

I was reading about a local business that rents out real trees over the holidays, then re-plants them at their tree farm after (presumably they are rented out in a large pot or something, not cut down), allowing the same tree to be used for multiple years.

I have a wooded patch, so our tree goes there to return to the land…

Look for an aluminum tree with a color wheel.

Around here the DNR takes the live trees and uses them for fish habitat in lakes.

Also, the live trees are farmed, so there are new trees constantly being planted to replace the ones cut.

As for us, we already have an artificial tree and use it rather than having to buy a new tree every year.

Never understood cutting down, thus killing a tree to celebrate a birth.

Don’t do that, man, it just adds plastic to the planet. Buy a farmed tree and mulch it after. Spread it on your flowerbeds!

In Arizona we are thinning the National Forests by marking the trees to be cut down. The under brush is burned by controlled burns (prescribed burns) conducd by the Forest Service. This is being done to prevent wild fires from turning into disasters. This plan works.

Wish they would do this at Rockefeller Center, the trees they kill every year have been over 100 years old. I mean once they light the poor dying tree you can’t see that there is a real one under there anyway.
