I remember when teaching consumerism, I asked my class what was special about a particular brand of shampoo. They all answered, “It’s pH balanced!” Then I asked, “What does that mean?” and nobody knew, not even me.
I solve this problem by reading the staff-written articles in respected women’s magazines and news outlets. Consumers Choice for example. When I find a product that works for my thin straight hair, I go out of my way to find it.
