My late Wife and I grocery shopped together. She would pick out items and stop to let me add it up in my head. How can you figure that so fast? Since most items end in .99 it was easier to just add 1 cent to everything, add it up and then however many items there were deduct that many cents.
The part that surprises me is that most people don’t notice when the economy size costs more per ounce than the smaller size, or when the name brand is cheaper than the house brand.
There is a similar scenario about how men and women go to bed (to sleep lol!) The woman says good night, but she does 20 things before actually going to bed. The man gets up, turns off the TV and actually goes to bed.
So I buy the stuff I’ll eat, and my family will buy the stuff that sits in the freezer and the fridge for a month. And we go buy groceries every week. Our freezer is always full. I buy what I’ll eat in a week.
This is SO true! I used to own a business where most of my customers were women. They’d buy the smaller, least expensive things. Once in a while, a husband would come in, and he’d get the biggest, most expensive thing. You could tell who was really in charge of the family budget.

So is the joke that he’s a guy and guys don’t know how to price groceries, or is it that he’s a guy and wants to impress the (pretty?) woman.

Margarine is one step above plastic. Real butter is the way to go.
