Burl Ives as the snowman singing “Holly Jolly Christmas” makes my Christmas better every year for decades. Go to youtube and copy/paste this to find it:

I like how the outdoor north pole scenes in the movie “Elf” payed homage to the Rankin/Bass Christmas movies.

George C. Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge, with Edward Woodward as the Ghost of Christmas Present (he stole the show, in my opinion)

Once, long, long ago, the company I worked for built a house for Jules Bass, of Rankin & Bass fame. A post & beam barn home, set on the bluff between two castles across the river from West Point. It was their 2nd home, the first being a 5th Ave penthouse in NYC. At one point they needed a small pick-up truck load of material to finish up some project delivered. I was available and asked what the deal was. Remember this was in the early 80’s; my normal pay per hour plus 50 cents a mile for my truck. The trip was four hours each way, so $200 for mileage. After I unloaded the material his wife, who was a dentist with a 5th Ave practice, thanked me and handed me two $100’s as a tip. All this while the two Italian stone masons, who came over with the imported Italian marble for the patio, screamed at each other, in Italian, over who got to use which tool when the whole time. My first lesson in 1%ers, but I told the lady if they needed anything else delivered to give me a call. Thanks for the memory jog.

Saw a DVD with all of their movies at the store, was sorely tempted to buy it.

I highly recommend the Rankin-Bass special “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus”. But I’m a fan of the author of the original book, so I may be biased…

Can they just leave the Miser Brothers out of it? One time? Dumbest part of the show, and I was small.

“The Grinch” was the last variation of the Christmas special that I watched. People realize that they all have basically the same theme, which has to do with Christmas, love, family and moving massing amounts of merchandise. As they get older, people tend to re-watch one they liked.

I love the Rankin/Bass specials; I grew up watching all of them. I also really love the Charlie Brown specials. I grew up watching all of them. With the invention of DVD’s I’ve been able to buy them to watch whenever I want but still tend to wait until December.

“Ebbie” with Susan Lucci as Elizabeth Scrooge. And, “A Wish For Wings That Work.” I know most people have never heard of either of those!
