Is this cartoonist suppose to a real Israeli or “Jew”? Because everyone of us know that Passover is one evening on the 14th of the first month, or if on a trip, it can be celebrated on the 14th of the second month. What she is alluding to when she writes “came here over Passover, and response of I am not eating bread products” is the Feast of Unleaven Bread, which is 8 days long.

A good compromise, I feel. If Abby wants to uphold the tradition, that’s her business. If the rest of the family doesn’t, that’s also their business. That way nobody’s forcing anyone to do something they themselves didn’t choose or agree to do.

I went through this “folderal” with my mother, who was catholic. On Fridays, when I would have a steak, hamburger or hotdog or even a bologna sandwich – while she chowed down in a fish fillet – she never saw the irony of that. Dietary restrictions never seemed to me to have ANY place in religion – the “pork” proscription that Jews and Muslins follow had a basis in reality at one time before the era of refrigeration, but these days is just a silly “rule” to follow, blindly…

Len is being totally unrealistic. Guilt is a Jewish mother’s most effective weapon

Before the pandemic there was an eclectic seminar series held Fridays at noon at a local college; free submarine sandwiches were served. One Friday in Passover a member of our group of retirees – active in his Conservative synagogue – brought along matzoh to replace the bread in the sub he ate that day. The fact that his chosen sub was ham-and-cheese doesn’t seem to have been a problem (except for the ribbing he got from us at the time).

Sneaking a Corn Dog would be way out of line then?

I imagine the deep fryer would be the least of the issues.

I’ve had some great Passover meals. And a couple that might be called a bit liberally interpreted. Keep your Kipa on and express a sincere Thank You. It is a lot of effort.
