My brother does this. I know he is trying to relate, and fit into the conversation, but it comes across like he is steering the subject back to himself.
(Example: “Yea, I just got over the flu myself”. Sounds innocent but he always does it.
That’s not great advice. It’s fine in a therapy situation where you want the clients to keep talking without interacting with them. In an ordinary conversation, it’s better to ask a question or two that will show you heard, e.g. what model? how does it compare to your old car? Once the conversation’s opened up a bit, you can bring in your own experiences, but keep listening and keep asking questions.
My wife’s car is now three months old. (I forget exactly when I purchased it for her, so if anyone knows, chime in here. I know that I told you all.) And, it just hit 30K miles.
Anyway, back to what I was going to say. She is in Arizona with her sick dad and I am here with the kids. (And, no, there has not been any emergencies, and I do not buy pizza every night, no matter what you guys might have heard.)
I love driving her car in this cold and snow. It doesn’t need any time to warm up, (because it’s electric), and although I lose 40 miles because of the cold, that heated steering wheel and heated seats for every one, is great. The only problem is that I have to keep the defroster running at low speed.
Oh my gosh! I just did what he did! Sorry, everyone.
