A small point here. I suspect that “human cargo” was stripped of all it’s humanity before it was packed onto those ships. Also, comparing what AI is doing to artists today with that may be a bit of a stretch. Maybe serial burglary would be a better comparison. Artists do have the option of just not working any more.
I don’t know anything about this AI company, but I fail to see how its chosen name is in any way either racist or cultural appropriation. I am familiar with the Middle Passage and its place in the horrible and shameful history of American slavery, but the name of this company does not seem to me to be so especially similar as to warrant labeling it tasteless. But, like Keith, I could be wrong.
