I don’t think anyone ever grew up aspiring to be a beggar. Most, I suspect (and this excludes those with mental health issues) would prefer to have some alternate and more secure source of income. It’s actually incredibly dangerous on the streets.
About 15 years ago there was an article in our local paper where they actually interviewed some panhandlers, and some said they made as much as $150 a day…not bad for a day’s, um, “work”?
