“Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.”
― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. (Chemist’s: British English for pharmacy/drug store)
Really beautiful artwork today; VERY beautiful. And I agree with the pooch and other writers here: I feel more a part of the vastness than intimated by it. There’s a star (almost undoubtedly a planet, Venus or maybe Saturn) that comes visiting my window at night. I can’t help but think that that which has become a nighttime adornment to my bedroom would take me MONTHS to travel to, and of all the space in between. For some reason it’s a happy thought.
If I have a desire to feel small, I simply go outside on a clear Winter’s night, where there are no lights around, and no moon, and just look up. The deep vastness makes me feel so small, and insignificant, and I get simply lost, in the stars.

Why should a little light up in the sky make you feel small?

The stars in the sky – imagining worlds around them, all with life – make me feel infinitesimal.

That line never succeeded in making me feel small/unimportant. I see that vastness and know I am a part of it.
