Then peaceful public demonstrations that Black Lives Matter (and similar). Then violent police crackdowns.
And January 6th. With promised pardons and revisionist history.
Next there were commandos in all but name going to libraries and other public areas to intimidate people. Then there were cancelled events without police intervention.
Now, in this comic, the commando intimidation tactic is being used against unions. Unfortunately, not far from reality.
