For several years I worked at a big, annual trade show/convention. Nearly all the exhibitors had free tote bags. I would stock up on the best ones. Now I have dozens of them which I use whenever I go shopping. Never had to pay for one of them. And I don’t have to deal with the store’s plastic bags when I get home.
Not to diss anyone for using cloth bags, I do too, but I have to say: We bring home our plastic bottles of milk, plastic bottles of dishwasher detergent, plastic bottles of pop, plastic bottles of drinking water and fruit juice and sports drinks, and our meat wrapped in plastic, and our produce in those long plastic bags… in a cloth bag so we can feel good about saving the planet???
I used to work for retail hardware/ lumber store (a small box not a big box). At the time, the receipts were printed out on 8 by 11.5 double copy paper, no matter if you bought a house package or a pound of nails. One time this guy began to argue with our poor checkout gal over how wasteful this was. She said , ‘You don’t have to take the receipt but I do have to print it." The guy started getting agitated and only when the manager came over did he finally leave, cursing to himself. Oh,well….
