Working on construction sites in Germany in the early 80’s it was typical to have cases of beer and to drink beer throughout the day, including at the breakfast break. At the end of the day the shots would come out.
I think Andy’s statement in the last panel is one of the greatest comments he’s ever made. Having a beer on the job is one thing I don’t have an issue with. Unfortunately, there are those that willfully cause a problem by drinking to many and getting drunk.
When my late husband worked in high-rise construction as the layout specialist, it was common for the Italian and Portuguese workers to have wine with their lunch (and to share with him).
Andy worked? Was in Germany in 1985 and at 8;30 AM I was having my morning coffee at a roadside cafe and the workers in the pit on the road were having a beer. So I asked my server if I could have a beer, and he replied of course and brought out a nice cold beer. Do you know which month less beer is consumed in Germany?
I lived those glory days. They were great! At one bank job, a requirement was a liquid lunch with my boss. At another, the day started with a company liquid brunch at noon and ended at a 6:00 PM gathering for company paid cocktails.
In all the places I’ve worked there has never been “after work drinks” Not even on a Friday. I wouldn’t go anyway. Haha. All I want to do is get paid and go home.

It’s less than a week to go before Lent which I will be participating in again for the 3rd time. Eeeeeeeeek! I’ll still be commenting on GoComics/Creators though. It’s Facebook I’m ditching again. I usually deactivate my account 5 mins before midnight.

Andy may have missed the “glory” years of work but never missed a pint. My My – those are some healthy big pints they are drinking.

Great, now you gave Andy another reason not to want to work. Like he needs any more.

As far as Capp being employed is concerned, all years — glory, whatever— have been missed.

They drink lattes in the UK? I thought that was just an American thing. You learn something new every day. (Today is my birthday, by the way.)
