I also didn’t get anything for Valentine’s Day, but my husband and I don’t celebrate it either. To us, every day is a day to express your love for each other, especially with kind gestures like letting your spouse sleep a little longer. I did put a cherry liqueur filled chocolate in his lunch box though. (Mon Cheri chocolate).
As someone who was married for 22 years and never got any type of valentine from my EX-husband after my engagement ring, I would have loved even a handwritten note. Don’t really recall a verbal “Happy Valentine’s Day”. Before anyone makes a comment, I baked and cooked valentine meals for him. And bought cards. Doesn’t take much effort.
We have finally cancelled the Hallmark holiday at our house. It’s taken me a few years to realize…. My husband treats me like valentines all year long. Washes my car; brings wood in and builds a fire whenever I want it. Fixes everything; washes dishes. He’s retired now. I’m working. No one keeping score here. I have enough valentines cards from the past to last me the rest of my life.
