I planted birdseed last year. I sorted the black oil sunflower seeds from some of my birdseed and planted that. No birdies popped up, but sunflower plants did!
NATIONAL CUT THE CORD DAY. Break free from expensive cable bills on February 9th by celebrating National Cut the Cord Day! The streaming movement has rapidly grown over the past five years, and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping. As the digital world supplies more choices, it also provides the flexibility, selection, and reliability we’ve been looking for.
NATIONAL NO ONE EATS ALONE DAY
NATIONAL TOOTHACHE DAY. Not to celebrate toothaches, National Toothache Day is a not so subtle reminder of the importance of dental care. Also known as odontalgia, a toothache is pain generating from a tooth or multiple teeth.
Isn’t Jellybean smarter than this? Each summer I do plant birdseed, and by fall it has gone to seed for the migrating birds. Sunflowers come up on their own each year for the goldfinches, but what a mess when it’s time to take them down in December. These are the multi branching type, and they intertwine and become brittle by the time the seeds have been eaten, and get caught in my hair and have pulled off my hat or glasses, it’s really a struggle. Some are so thick I have to use a saw to cut them up. But when hundreds are blooming they sure are pretty!
Jellybean is a bit confused. You sprinkle the seed on the ground, and the birds come then. The seeds that aren’t eaten will come up later, turn to seed, and bring more birds.
Now that I am feeding birdseed exclusively to the outdoor birds, I expect some will sprout. Still no cardinals. A small black bird pair, one had red stripe on its shoulders, came around a bit ago. Nowadays all common brown sparrows. I’d welcome a bully jay for color. Sigh.
Gardening is all about patience. One way or another, bird will show up. I’ve never had any trouble with birds in my garden, but unfortunately, I have had to deal with slugs. Those pesky slime balls can make short work of anything you plant if you don’t take the right precautions. On another note, saw two varied thrushes, two wrens, and four chickadees while out walking today.

Keep believing, JB. Real birds are grateful you are distracted by the bird seed ‘plants’.

Jellybean, in my garden, it’s plant seeds and bulbs, and pray the squirrels and the birds don’t get them all.

I like the idea; plant seeds and they’ll become birds!
