I was a landlord briefly after my parents died and I took over their condo. I hated it. My tenants all paid the rent at least, but some were a real pain.
But gambling addiction is real and it’s scary. I’ve experienced it with a close relative. We’re talking complete personality change. This is a very smart person who was saying the stupidest things for justification, a very honest person who telling frequent lies, a very thrifty person who was burning through money at a rapid rate. This person refused help and was only saved when Covid shut down the casinos. The return to normal was thankfully instantaneous.
