Remember, the right wingers don’t CARE about what the intentions were when the Constitution and amendments were written. They care about how they can distort the words to their own ends.
It’s hard to parse the exact intentions of people who wrote 150 years ago and aren’t around to explain. I find it hard to believe they would not want all those other offices to be occupied by insurrectionists, but it would be OK for them to be President.
Also, look at the bills hastily dashed off by Republicans about abortion, written vaguely enough to interpret any way they choose, sounding like they mean one thing (saving the life of the mother), but meaning that you get pregnant, you’re on your own.
Looks like the Supremes are gonna vote against leftists who are trying to thwart democracy by removing a candidate they don’t like from state ballots. Can’t beat him, then delete him!
Maybe our legal system needs reform. Our current system is frequently weaponized to punish rather than administer justice. Maybe we should move to a “inquisitorial” system from our “adversarial” system. Just a thought exercise.
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.” Insurrectionist45 was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives on Jan. 13, 2021 for incitement of insurrection.
Little did they know.. Be interesting to see how the Supreme court spins this. Politically.. they have to give trump a pass. On the law.. it’s clear trump can not appear on “any” ballot.
Trump made the mistake of b!tching about the election before it even happened, every Secretary of State made sure that they weren’t the ones that were going to be screwed up he should have shut, his mouth and waited till after the election and the dummy hasn’t learned anything yet
‘Yikes’: Internet erupts after ‘Dementia Trump’ makes several verbal slip-ups at NRA rally
The former president slurred when saying the word “subsidies,” said “dino-dollars” instead of “dollars,” and even said he doesn’t like being frontpage news every time he “said one word a little bit mispronunciation.” He also said that three years ago things were great, despite that being when Joe Biden became president, and he claimed twice there were no terror attacks during his tenure as president. He also said that Biden hasn’t spoken in months despite him addressing the press last night.
The flubs drew wide criticism from online onlookers.
“Trump is slurring his speech again claiming that ‘Rich people are given $7,000 subsies.’ Uh…subsies?” he asked. “I’m not sure what that is and I don’t think anyone else does either. He can’t say subsidies properly so he must have dementia. Right, Republicans?”
Regarding the “subsies,” former prosecutor Ron Filipkowski said, “Dementia Trump is staring at the teleprompter, pauses to think about it, and still can’t say it.”
In yet another instance pointed out by the Biden-Harris HQ account on social media, Trump “gets distracted with bizarre story.”
“I know all about the marbles. I can tell you every marble,” Trump said.
Republicans still support their vicious lying insane Putin loving traitor to the Constitution.
oh please… this again… 600,000 Americans died in the Civil War — ONE person died, shot by a cop, in the 4-hour riot at the Capitol. Give me a break. (…and don’t tell me more cops died that day — that’s a myth. Just look it up.)
“Insurrection” is a specific Federal crime. One that no one has been charged with. That, you see, would take hard work, something that the Democrats are congenitally allergic to.
hmmm…so only by the virtuous media opinions can and will one be tried, convicted, and jailed “just because”…Drain The Deep State Swamp…MAGA…America First…Trump 2024…
“… or hold any office under the United States, civil or military” is pretty clear, isn’t it? Even disregarding the fact that the President is constitutionally the Commander in Chief of the armed services (though for literalists, the fact that the Constitution lists only “army and navy” might be a sticking point). I can only guess that the amendment goes on to enumerate Electors and so on because some might not think of them as holding “an office under the United States”.
As for “officers” being appointed by the president who doesn’t appoint himself, what about Ford, appointed Vice President by Nixon and then going on to “inherit” the presidency; apparently presidents can be in a sense “appointed”.
There is not a conviction required for the 14th amendment section 3 to take effect. Otherwise, Jefferson Davis could have returned to office after the civil war. It may not have actually been an insurrection on 1/6/2021, but it was at least a rebellion. Under the constitution of the United States, Donald J. Trump is disqualified from holding office unless CONGRESS reverses the disqualification. Congress, not a vote or court decision.

Exactly! But you had no idea of the stupidity of a large number of the future American population. No-one could have foreseen that until now.

The 14th is there to protect democracy in America.
Republicans don’t WANT democracy in America. So, naturally, they believe the 14th doesn’t exist.
And, of course, It’s OKAY If A Republican Does It.

The left wants you to believe Trump led an insurrection (no one charged with insurrection) in order to overthrow the leader of the government (Trump).

Say what you will about Mr. Michael Ramirez, and I can say plenty. Still, he knows the danger a second Trump term would pose to the United States.
On this topic, we agree that Trump must not be allowed to be President ever again.
