Quite aside from the stupidity of believing in Sky Daddy™, think about what prayers imply. If you’re asking for a given outcome, that means that you don’t trust “the plan”, or that you’re asking Sky Daddy™ to change “the plan”. Either way, you’re going on record as saying you know better than Sky Daddy™.
Intercessory prayer is even dumber than religious belief, and that’s saying something.
I pray as a running narrative, but when I accidentally ask for something, I apologize and end with “if you’re really there, forget the touchdown and go take care of someone who needs it”. I hope that I did something really great in some previous life to deserve what I have in this one, because it’s pretty scary to think I might be running up a bill.
