True words. Your natural droops do make those not in the know think that, and then if you work the eyes, people are convinced. That’s how your kind mooch so many treats, but those of us who recognize the con know better and don’t fall prey to the act and do not over indulge you.
Nothing is sadder-looking than a left-behind basset, and they can sure milk it. We used to give Barney a little treat when he watched mournfully as we left. He wouldn’t take it, but he would open his mouth just enough so we could push it in! We’d try not to laugh at him.
When I was in Costa Rica we stopped at a grocery store where someone had tied up their little dog outside and then another person tied up a much bigger dog by just clipping onto the little dog’s leash. Problem was when the big dog got up to bark at something he pulled the little dog completely off the ground. Fortunately the big dog’s owner came out and left with her dog.
