Parenthood is also a lifetime job, though late in life if one is lucky enough to live a LONG life – sometimes your children have to become the parents.
I hear it in my 95 yo mom’s voice when we talk. She wants to make sure we are okay. If in discussion I tell her about something we are dealing with – THAT she will be sure to remember until the following week’s call and ask if things are improving. She is lucky to still to have a good mind – just limited in physically getting around.
On the other hand – my sisters and I when we talk to her are checking that all is okay with her. (Though I truly think that a 7 pm bedtime is too early for a grown adult. She gets special permission for me to call her at 7pm on Sunday nights and we talk for an hour -sometimes less as they have come anyway to put her to bed – they know I will be on the phone with her to 8pm and they are NOT suppose to put her to bed for the night before same.)
